Publications in Chinese In 2001, Zhiwu Chen started to write non-technical articles for Chinese magazines and newspapers, with the goal of reaching a broad audience and disseminating our research in China. This effort is aimed at having an impact not only on policies, but also on the society's general appreciation and understanding of the necessary institutions for a market economy. The program will continue with such efforts, because we believe that a successful transformation of any society requires a long process of institution building and cultural changes. From June to December 2002, Zhiwu Chen visited Tsinghua University in Beijing. During this period, Dr. Chen not only did more research and writings in Chinese, but also gave a number of lectures on press freedom and market development.
